I know that I am the "new guy", but I thought that I could help make this blogsite a reality for this fantastic world. Personally, the movie means a lot to me and I still tear up and sometimes outright cry near the end of the movie when Ray asks his dad for a "catch" and when they allude to the fact that Iowa may just be "HEAVEN". I was born just outside of Dubuque, Iowa, and I met my wife 21 years ago at the very University where they filmed the scene where Ray was in the library doing some studying. Actually, I joke that Ray had his truck parked in a spot that would have been ticketed or towed if we parked there when I went to school there. The filming took place while my wife was still taking classes and some other scenes were filmed downtown which caused some interesting traffic changes. We had roads that were usually one way streets that became two way streets during filming and it is really wierd to drive a different way on a road than you are used to...
The movie is perhaps one of my most favorite movies ever and it took extra meaning in my live when my wife and I were away from Iowa during 1989-1994. She is a native Iowan also and my life as a retail manager with FW Woolworth took us to Illinois and Indiana for a spell. We had some good years in those 2 states and had 2 children while we lived in Illinois, but the fall of the Woolworth company and living in southside Chicago left us to make some life-changing decisions. We decided that I would leave my income and go back to Iowa with a job offer that she had that would have provided us with half the income that we were living on currently. It was a decision that caused us to live by a shoestring in the short term but looking back at it now, it was the best decision that we could have possibly made. As I prepared to leave Illinois, (my wife and children left beforehand to start her new job) the last movie I watched before coming back was "Field of Dreams"...I balled like a baby as I was returning to what I feel is indeed "Heaven on Earth". Iowans are very special people and with our recent flood problems, strangers are helping each other through the crisis as Iowans are always thinking about each other.
Sorry for the very long introduction, but as you can see, this movie brings a lot of thoughts and emotions...Enjoy the new blogsite...

Words from the Wise One "jakaitis"...
"People will come, WIS. They'll come to HBD for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $24.95 per season. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and control of a major league franchise they lack."
